Psalm 142

by Thomas Perricci

This one I like to call in the cave. Its about the time when Absolam, David’s son decided that the old man had to go. So David’s enemies got together with his rotten but extremely attractive brat to take over. Psalm 142 takes place in a cave .David talks about the fact that many had turned against him. Because this was from the palace ,they knew him and his habits.  So without friends and few allies, he complains about his enemies and turns to YHWH.

“In the cave” is the other name that I call this psalm. David is hiding in a cave hiding from his enemies. Probably the most depressing part of the situation is the fact that his son is leading the enemy forces. He is joined by the political cronies from the royal court. All of his enemies knew him personally, so it was easy to try to trap in in his daily pattern.

David first complains about the situation, then he turns his attention to G-D. He says, you are my shelter and my part in the land of the living
